HIS EDGE

Three Women, Three Mentors, One Plane

Book Signings - Meet the Author in Person- See Below!

This is one of the most fascinating books that has come out of the World War II era.  Semi-autobiographically, it tracks a young Navy pilot, Waite Davis, before and after he becomes a civilian test pilot.  Going from rookie to pro demanded "an edge."

At first, evil lets Waite succeed occasionally, trying to disarm him; not succeeding, evil unleashes its arsenal.

Reviews of Novel

“A life-or-death struggle between good and evil.  An insider’s glimpse into the technical, political, and personal stresses of developing high performance airplanes. An enduring love story.  Wayne Harding delivers it all in one engrossing package.”

                                                - Linda Berry, author of The Trudy Roundtree Mysteries

“…written by a man who has experienced many adventures and emergencies in the air, he knows how to describe them so that the reader’s palms sweat.  It is … “must” reading for all lovers of the adventure/suspense novel.  It has the added value of a clear, natural, non-preachy presentation of the gospel.”

-Publisher Report from The Writer’s Edge

“Easy reading.  True adventure of a man whose passion for, and description of, flying made my fists clench and heart thump as if I were in the cockpit with him.  Family and spiritual values intertwine as basics for living then and now.”

                                                -Betty K. Gurian, professional businesswoman

Dedication

I dedicate this book to two families I have not seen in sixty years: Dick Burroughs’ and Bill Millar’s, both fellow graduate engineers from Princeton University.  Bill Millar was a naval pilot in WWII, as was I.  Dick Burroughs was 4-F due to a missing finger.  Bill and Dick each had a picture perfect marriage, including a young son.  Dick was Chief Test Pilot at Chance Vought Aircraft, Stratford, CT.  Bill and I were his new hires after WWII.  Three civilian test pilots from Princeton.  We used to laugh about it.  Others did too, especially Princetonians, until Dick lost his life testing, followed by Bill a year later.  Their families, and I, kept asking, Why? -- like Job, thousands of years ago.  Why the two pilots with ideal marriages and young sons?  Others of us had no attachments nor budding families.  It wasn’t fair.

I secondarily dedicate this book to the millions who have suffered losses similar to, perhaps greater than, the Burroughs and Millars.

The question is always: Why?

There is an answer.  Now, at 86, I’m positive it is the right one, at least for me.

It starts with, “Where were you ........................ ?”

                         Personal Statement from Author

 Dear Reader,

I hope you capture and understand the evolution of Waite's incisiveness and keenness necessary to help him have "an edge."

Later in my life, in other industries, I have found "an edge" exhilarating and important.  If reading His Edge leads you to develop "an edge," you will have captured the esprit of the esprit de corps found in the successful people around you.
